About Clover

Clover Kayne is a versatile mezzo-soprano praised for her "flexible, warm tone" and "lovely rounded sound." Currently studying with Kate Paterson and Jonathan Papp at the Royal Academy Opera Studio, she is supported by the Carr-Gregory Award and the Opera Awards Foundation.

Her operatic highlights include Hänsel in Hänsel und Gretel (Royal Academy Opera, November 2024), Third Lady in The Magic Flute (Spring 2025), and the title role in Handel’s Ariodante. Additional operatic scene performances include Charlotte in Werther, Octavian in Der Rosenkavalier, Rinaldo in Handel’s Rinaldo, and Bradamante in Alcina. She has also worked with Nevill Holt Opera, If Opera, and the Georg Solti Accademia, broadening her artistry as an Emerging Artist.

On the concert platform, Clover has performed Mahler’s Rückert Lieder with the Freude Orchestra, Vaughan Williams’ Serenade to Music under Vassily Sinaisky, and Schoenberg’s Gurrelieder (chorus) with Esa-Pekka Salonen at the Basilique Cathédral de Saint-Denis. She premiered James Allen’s song cycle Etched onto Me at the Barbican and sang in Vaughan Williams’ Serenade to Music and Mahler’s Symphony No. 3 (chorus) under Semyon Bychkov at Royal Festival Hall.

Clover's recital work spans venues such as the Austrian Cultural Forum, St George’s Bristol, and Wiltshire Music Centre. She is a member of the Academy Song Circle and a Josephine Baker Trust Artist. Her poetry readings have been broadcast on BBC Radio 4’s Poetry Please, and her singing was featured on Reaching for Rossini.

Clover was runner-up in the Richard Lewis Award at the Royal Academy of Music. Raised in a non-musical family near Bath and Wiltshire, she earned First Class Honours in her undergraduate studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, followed by a Distinction in her Master’s at the Royal Academy of Music, where she also won the Charles Norman Prize for outstanding studentship.
